{"id":5738,"date":"2012-09-24T22:32:56","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T05:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tara.meditationinsantabarbara.org\/?page_id=5738"},"modified":"2012-10-28T18:43:32","modified_gmt":"2012-10-29T01:43:32","slug":"about-lamrim-meditations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meditationinsantabarbara.org\/about-lamrim-meditations\/","title":{"rendered":"About Lamrim Meditations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is Lamrim?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Lamrim means “the stages of the path to enlightenment”.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is a special set of instructions that includes all the essential teachings of Buddha – and is the heart of Kadampa Buddhism.<\/p>\n<p>The Lamrim instructions were compiled by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha, who was invited to Tibet by King Jangchub \u00d6 in AD 1042, and who spent the rest of his life there spreading pure Dharma.<\/p>\n<p>There is a completely pure and unbroken lineage of these Lamrim instructions from Buddha Shakyamuni up to our present day Spiritual Guides.<\/p>\n<p>The instructions of Lamrim are easy to understand and practice, and can readily be applied to solving the problems of daily life. If we gain deep experience of Lamrim there will be no basis for these problems; we shall be completely free from all of them.<\/p>\n<p>By joyfully and patiently doing these meditations we shall gradually experience the fruits of Lamrim practice.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually we shall attain freedom from all suffering and the unchanging peace and happiness of enlightenment.<\/p>\n<h2>Twenty-one meditations<\/h2>\n<p>There are 21 Lamrim meditations, which are usually practiced in a three-week cycle as a daily meditation practice:<\/p>\n<p>Our precious human life<br \/>\nDeath and impermanence<br \/>\nThe danger of lower rebirth<br \/>\nRefuge practice<br \/>\nActions and their effects<br \/>\nDeveloping renunciation for samsara<br \/>\nDeveloping equanimity<br \/>\nRecognizing that all living beings are our mothers<br \/>\nRemembering the kindness of living beings<br \/>\nEqualizing self and others<br \/>\nThe disadvantages of self-cherishing<br \/>\nThe advantages of cherishing others<br \/>\nExchanging self with others<br \/>\nGreat compassion<br \/>\nTaking<br \/>\nWishing love<br \/>\nGiving<br \/>\nBodhichitta<br \/>\nTranquil abiding<br \/>\nSuperior seeing<br \/>\nRelying upon a Spiritual Guide<br \/>\nThese meditations, along with instructions on how to practice and essential background material can be found in <em>The New Meditation Handbook<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Lamrim?
