***For students wishing to attend from cities outside of Santa Barbara, and for those whose circumstances prevent in-person attendance due to illness, we offer our FP class via zoom .***

The Foundation Program is a unique, structured study program that enables us to gain deeper understanding and experience of Buddhist teachings and to develop a regular meditation practice. It is ideal for those who have a general understanding of Buddhism but who wish to learn more.

In February of 2022 we began our study of How to Understand the Mind by Buddhist Master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This book offers us deep insight into our mind, and shows us how an understanding of its nature and functions can be used practically in everyday experience to improve our lives.

To maintain the integrity and quality of the class discussions there is a study and attendance requirement, as well as a commitment to memorization and scheduled exams for this program. Anyone who is interested in trying out the foundation program is asked to attend two consecutive classes before deciding whether or not to join the class.

Through systematic study and meditation on this program we can deepen our understanding and insight of Buddha’s teachings, gain confidence in our meditation practice, and transform our lives by transforming our own mind. By learning to understand our own experiences of difficulty, problems, and suffering, we will be better able to support to those around us, and impact their lives in a more positive, meaningful way.
